Just a Thought

Today I stopped at Big R to get Ben new shoelaces. We quickly found what we needed and headed to the checkout. There were quite a few people in line so, we took our spot and waited. I was having a hard time keeping Nicholas away from the candy and from wanting to go explore the store. Finally we were next in line.

As we were waiting a Hispanic man jumped in front of us. I looked at the clerk and she took him next. She looked at me and mouthed, "Sorry". I'm thinking if you know this guy cut, why don't you send him to the back of the line? She finished with him then his friend jumped in the line to checkout. I tried to step up and started to say, "I think..." Again she said, "Sorry." So I said, "You could tell them that we were here first." She didn't say anything. She finished with him and I stepped up, clearly annoyed as I'm trying to occupy a 3 year old while holding on to the infant seat. She says to me, "I don't think they spoke English." I said, "Well, I understand that could be true, but we live in America and they need to figure it out." Last time I checked a little gesture toward the line would explain to these men that we had been waiting. She went on to tell me that this happens all the time there. "They always do this"....umm well, maybe that is why they continue to do it. Maybe they should think about a solution to this problem.

So, yes, I'm venting. I'm disappointed with that worker and the way she handled that situation. Let's just say I'm not jumping at the chance to do more business there.

I agree. What they've taught them is that 'non-english speakers' need not wait in line. A simple hand gesture would get the point across, as you said. They're not stupid...
Maybe a note to the management is in order.

ARGGGGG!!!! If I was there I totally would have been like DUDE, line and when they do the no habla ingles, fingers (you choose which ones) and pointing usually do the trick. People are so manipulated. Just because they don't speak english does NOT mean they are stupid or lacking in the ability to have social skills. SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. and the employee?????? are you kidding? I now wonder at her ability to have social skills and stupidity.
