Sub, Playdate and New Words

On Thursday I got to play teacher again. No, I'm not making fun of the profession (they work very hard!). My friend Jamie asked me to Sub for her 1st grade class at Peninsula. In fact, she is the one who moved into my classroom when I left, so I was even back in my old room. Besides having a few troubles with some "different" Spanish names the day went well. After asking him to say his name one more time, a little boy told me I should get a plastic thing to wear in my ear so I can hear better. I tried to tell him that my hearing is fine, it is my brain that doesn't do Spanish! I guess it isn't just white people that are getting creative with the names now days.

On Friday we went to Amanda and Bryce's house for a play date. I guess I should also say Kaitlyn's house as Bryce's new baby sister arrived 2 weeks ago. Holden and Kamie were there too. It is always fun to see what the kids do. After watching Bryce climb onto the coffee table/toy table Nicholas thought he needed to do it too. He was pretty proud standing up on the table! Holden had no desire to follow and stood by and watched. The kids also enjoyed eating crackers (Bryce liked to sample a few and put them back in the bowl), grapes and cookies. Bryce also enjoyed taking Nicholas' half eaten crackers from him and eating them...which meant Nicholas got a new cracker with every bite. Nicholas didn't mind as long as the cracker was replaced with something!

Nicholas is trying to communicate more and more. What is funny is the words I'm trying to teach him like, more, milk and eat aren't the ones he is learning/using. He says "bye-bye" (uses it correctly) and "bys" (which means bites...or eat). When he is hungry he goes to his highchair and stares up at it saying bys, bys. He has a Duck and Goose book that he loves. He will bring that book to me and say "du" so I will read him the duck book. I know many of you will say I will regret this, but I do look forward to him talking and being able to tell me what he wants. Sometimes I can tell there is something wrong and I just wish he could tell me!

Trust me I completely agree. Caleb can say a lot of words, but sometimes I have absolutely no idea what he is trying to say and am eager for that day also. That way I don't accidentally say "Go ahead" and then watch him take something that's not garbage, and throw it away! :)

About the coffee table...just wait!
