Preschool

Today was our visit to the Big Bend Co-op toddler class. Nicholas had such a great time!

When we first got there the kids put their things in their cubbies and went to wash their hands. They have a tiny sink that is just the right size for 1 and 2 year olds. It is so cute that they can wash their hands like a big person! Then the kids are free to play with everything. They can play in any of the play areas (kitchen, book corner, dress-up, toys etc.) or there were 3 art projects out for the kids to do.

His favorite activity was painting with a brush at the easel, and yes he did eat some (ok, actually he tasted the red a few times and the green once)! His favorite color seemed to be red...eating and painting! I tried to get him to use the green and yellow, but it just wasn't happening today. Although he did manage to get some green paint in his hair. His other favorite activity was playing at the birdseed table. It is like a sand table, but has birdseed in it, which is easier to clean up than sand! We also painted an apple with colored shaving cream. Interestingly enough he didn't enjoy this as much as I thought he would. He wasn't so sure about getting his hands dirty...imagine that! We attempted to put stickers on an apple that was taped to a large craft stick. I say attempted because he was way more interested in the sticks than the stickers. He enjoyed playing in the kitchen area, visited the story corner and also found the play toys at the end.

After play time we went to the carpet area where we did a 10 minute circle time. We sang a few songs and played a few games. The kids got to hold things like a star wand, a colored animal (for brown bear game) egg shakers and sticks (for music making). The kids were really good at sitting and the teacher held their attention very well. It helps when they keep it organized and short!

Next we washed our hands and had snack, then headed outside to play. They have trikes (3 different types with helmets of course) balls, basketball hoops and more. They also have a play toy that is toddler sized for the little guys. It was so nice to be in an environment that actually caters to toddler!

We had so much fun I signed Nicholas up for the program so we will be going back every Monday for their 2 hour program. I will enjoy going to the parent class that meets once a month and be earning college credit at the same time!
