Well, it happened today. Nicholas got his first burn and I feel terrible. I was cooking dinner and went to spread the oil around in the pan. As usual, Nicholas was standing under the stove trying to watch what I was doing. Of course we had just come in from playing outside and I had taken off his dirty clothes so he was naked. Some oil splashed down and landed on his chin, neck, collar bone area and stomach. At first I wondered why he was screaming as I didn't see anything splash. But it took only a second to figure out what was wrong.
After putting a cold cloth on it and watching it for an hour I decided I better have it checked so we ran down to the walk-in clinic where they said some of it is probably 2nd degree and will blister by tomorrow. I have to watch it and keep a clean shirt on him, but other than that I just wait to see how bad it is. The good news is the doctor said it doesn't look bad enough to scar.
Well, just another adventure as the mother of a boy!

:( OUCHIE!!! I've had a couple 2nd degree burns... they're definitely not fun, so I understand why he was screaming. I was an adult and still screamed when I got my coffee burn on my arm.
Ouchie is right.
To the upside, it wasn't hot water (more volume) and it missed his little face. A tough lesson; he might have to learn that that is not a good place to stand. Hard in a small kitchen.
