You should not put 20" rims on your ride...

...because it could end up as a stripped and burnt-out hunk of scrap at the edge of some farmer's field. First thing Monday morning I was going to check some sprinklers and came across this Chevy Trailblazer that had been left for dead the night before. It was obviously a hot car (get it-- because it was on fire and it was stolen!) with all the wheels taken off in a big hurry. They even left their jack under one corner. I called the county Sheriff dispatch to have them come deal with it. They wanted a license plate number, and it took me about three tries to get it across to them that IF it had plates at one time, they were melted and unreadable. After they came out to take a look, we were able to read four digits of the VIN (which is seventeen digits long) and match the numbers to an '03 Chevy Trailblazer that had been stolen in Moses Lake sometime Sunday night. It had 20" wheels.

The tractor is another interesting part of the story. It belongs to my potato renters. The car thieves actually drove the Trailblazer past where it was found and got it and their pickup stuck in a big muddy spot that had just been watered. They then had to walk almost 1/2 a mile back to the tractor, break into it, hotwire it, and then use it to pull out both of their stuck vehicles. The tractor was not damaged much by comparison, but was damaged enough to warrant an insurance claim. If the keys were left in it unlocked, they probably would not have damaged it at all. They didn't even touch the radios in it.

I've never seen a vehicle so thoroughly burned. You can't tell in the picture, but the fire actually melted the transfer case and part of the transmission.
It was still smoking a little even as it was cleaned up.
I really didn't get much done yesterday morning.
