On Saturday Nicholas and I headed out to the farm for a much needed change of scenery. Nicholas enjoyed seeing his grandparents and the dogs...he didn't cry at the barking this time! He also enjoyed some running across the trampoline and a quick walk through the sprinkler.
Saturday afternoon Nicholas and I went to Gracie's birthday party. She is the little girl next door who just turned 2. He had fun pushing a toy all around the patio, as well as falling face first into her baby pool. There was only about 2-3 inches of water in it and I was sitting right by him when he did it. At least with his clothes wet he stayed cool.
I have 3 bushes removed (all but the roots) and the 4th one barely started...so not as much progress as I had hoped. They were supposed to come out yesterday, but between the awful heat (103+) and some problems at the farm, we decided we should wait another day or two to remove the roots. I want to have them out by the time the windows get here.
The windows should be here this week, but I'm still waiting to hear what day. I'm doing a little test of my own before they get here. I put a thermometer between the blinds and the slider to see how hot it is right there. I wasn't sure what side the reader was on, so I tried it facing in and out. Facing in it read 106 and facing out it read 123. That was this morning! I will be trying that the next few mornings and again with the new slider. We ordered a sun coating that is supposed to block the UV rays and decrease window temperature...we are sure hoping it lives up to the brochure explanation!
I just signed Nicholas up for his first swimming lessons. I'm excited to have him in the pool as he seemed to love it so much! Our Aquatic center offers 2 week sessions (8 classes) for only $20 so it is a good deal! My friend Annie is going to take her girl Natalie, so we should have fun!
I almost had an encounter with our skunks the other night. I was outside putting down the umbrellas at 9:45 when one came through the fence. It stopped and looked at me...and I froze and looked at it. It went and stood back by the shed. I slowly walked inside and turned on the patio light. It hurried under the shed and I went back out to finish my job. I think we are going to try to get a trap and trap them. Ben thinks the next step is to fill the garbage can with water and drown them in the trap. That seems to be what people recommend...either that or shooting them. Ben doesn't seem to want to put them in the back of his pick-up and take them out to the farm to shoot them...so we might give the drowning a try. Either way we aren't looking forward to dealing with them. :{

It's really hot here too... luckily our apartment is in a corner and shaded well so it doesn't get too bad. I'm up at the Hall house though, which is VERY hot, and we've been spending quite a bit of time outside, where it's not as hot as inside... ugh.
