Yardwork

Ben has been working on getting some yard work done. He is prepping the yard for grass planting this Spring. His first step was to disc down all of the large weeds and get the area looking some what bare. For some reason I didn't get any pictures of this step.

The next thing that needed to be done was even out the yards. The front yard needed dirt brought up from near the road closer to the house to make a nice slope.
The back yard had a hump on it about where the tractor is in the next picture. Ben spread some of that dirt around the rest of the back yard.

When things were a little more even, he put a gate behind the 4 wheeler and pulled it around to get rid of tractor lines and other imperfections. I have a picture of Ben on the 4 wheeler but I have tried to add it twice and it is causing problems...so it will have to be left out.

Then he spread some triticale seed (like wheat). The idea is that it will come up fast and sooner than grass would. This should help the blowing sand early this spring.
Next he got some dairy compost and spread a few loads of that around the yard.

One final trip over everything with the 4 wheeler pulling the gate and here is where we are at right now. It is looking really good. We are working on a sprinkler system design so we can get it installed soon. Then it will be grass planting this Spring.

I'm really looking forward to having grass for Nicholas to play in!

That's looking great! The trit seed will really help out when the wind blows.

Um, are you also looking forward to mowing all that grass? Just kidding!!! So once the grass is up we will bring all the little boys together to tromp through it and make sure you didn't miss a spot. You forgot to mention that part where you were doing slave labor too!
